Display ProMotion 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate has been extended beyond Pro models — iPhone 17 now has it. Always-On display supported, refresh can drop down to 1 Hz when idle.
Front Camera (“Center Stage”) New “Center Stage” front cam sensor — square sensor, higher resolution (~18 MP), wider field of view. Enables better framing (portrait vs landscape) without rotating phone. Dual capture (front + back) is supported.
Rear Cameras All models get 48 MP main camera. Ultra-wide also upgraded (on non-Air models). Pro/Pro Max gain improved telephoto options: up to 4× / 8× optical zoom on the Pro/Max.
Chips / Performance New A19 chip in the base iPhone 17. Pro / Pro Max (and Air) get A19 Pro, which has more GPU power, better thermals (vapor chamber cooling), and improved sustained performance.
Build & Materials More durable design: “Ceramic Shield 2” glass with better scratch resistance; reduced glare. Pro models have better heat dissipation, robust build. Air model is ultra-thin.
Storage Base storage starts at 256 GB — doubled from prior base models.
Battery & Charging Battery life improved across the board. Claims like ~30+ hours of video playback for base 17; more for Pro/Max. Also faster charging options.
Connectivity New wireless / networking chips: Apple’s “N1” chip supports newer Wi-Fi standard (WiFi 7), Bluetooth improvements, etc. Better modem and connectivity in Pro/Air models.
Design Changes Thinner bezels, more premium look; Air is especially thin; Pro models may be slightly larger and heavier compared to previous Pro models.
